Is my date available?
YES! Our new space allows us to have no limit on bookings in 2012 and beyond!
What do I need to do to book my wedding with Scratch?
A $200 non-refundable deposit will secure your booking and give you the most flexibility. You can bring your payment into the store, call in with a credit card number, etc. Just be sure your payment clearly indicates the names associated with your wedding. This deposit is applied towards your final cost.
How far in advance do you need to know our flavors and numbers?
Once your deposit is paid, your wedding is considered "booked" and will stay on the calendar. We don't need your final numbers and flavors until two weeks prior.
Do you offer discounts for weddings?
We do offer quantity discounts for weddings of more than 200 cupcakes. It doesn't cost us less to make more, but we do appreciate being a part of your special day! Discounts start at 200 cupcakes with a minimum of 100 cupcakes per flavor. Quantities fewer than 200 cupcakes or orders with less than 100 cupcakes per flavor are calculated at our regular in-store prices.
What are your wedding cupcake prices?
Overall cost ultimately depends on your final numbers, flavors, number of each flavor, etc. Most generally, if you have a minimum of 200 cupcakes total, with a minimum of 100 of each flavor, our tiers break down something like this:
$1.65 each for Vanilla Vanilla, Vanilla Chocolate, Chocoholic, and Chocolate Vanilla;
$1.75 each for Chocolate Chip, Oh Happy Day, Wedding Day, Raspberry Love, Razzle Dazzle, Mocha and Red Velvet;
$1.85 each for more complex flavors like Toffee, Monkey Business, German Chocolate, etc.
Adding custom colors or decorations brings additional cost, generally per cupcake. If you have an idea what flavors you’d like, include this in your email and we'll get you a quote specific to your event. We caution wedding parties to choose fewer than 6 flavors. When presented with too many choices, guests often choose more than 1 flavor, raising your overall quantity. 90% of our weddings choose 2-4 flavors.
Do you do cakes?
How does payment work?
Your non-refundable deposit is required at the time of your initial booking. Final payment, final flavors, and final numbers are due two weeks prior to your booked date. Cupcakes added after this time will be billed at our regular in-store prices, due at pick-up or delivery.
What are your most popular flavors for weddings?
Wedding Day is extremely popular (almond cake with vanilla buttercream), as well as Chocolate Vanilla and Chocolate Chip. This past season, those three were our top sellers. This coming wedding season (2012), Red Velvet, Wedding Day, and Chocolate Vanilla have been most popular.
Can we come in for a tasting?
We encourage you to come in at your leisure and sample something different every time you come. Over time, your favorites will stand out to you!
Do you rent cupcake trees?
We do! Stop in at Scratch and we'll show you what we have to offer!
Will you deliver and set up?
We can deliver cupcakes to just about any venue in Iowa depending on the date. Delivery starts at $25 for locations in Cedar Falls and Waterloo. Delivery is available to locations more than an hour away (based on availability) for a fee of $50 per hour driving time each direction. A venue contact person or representative for the wedding party must be present at the time of delivery. We do not set up at your venue. We've found over time that wedding parties have a clear vision of what they want a dessert table to look like, and it's a much better task for someone close to the bride and groom. This is a great task for aunts, cousins, etc.
My wedding is 2+ hours away...will the cupcakes travel well?
If kept in an air-conditioned vehicle, away from direct sunlight, you should have no problems traveling to your event. We ask that cupcake boxes be stacked no more than 2 boxes high, and kept as flat as possible. Your wedding cupcakes should not travel in the bed of a pickup or in a vehicle without air conditioning, especially in summer months. We recommend you pick up your cupcakes the night before, rather than the morning of the wedding, in case of any hiccups along the way. Delivery is available to locations more than an hour away (based on availability) for a fee of $50 per hour driving time each direction.
If we pick up our cupcakes, do we need to know anything?
Your cupcakes will be boxed 1-3 dozen per box. If you order 400 cupcakes, that could mean upwards of 15 large cupcake boxes! Be sure you have the vehicle space for them, stacked no more than 2 boxes high. Generally this just means the back of an SUV with the seats folded down. If you've booked a Friday wedding, we will have them ready by 9:00 a.m. on Friday. If you've booked a Saturday wedding, we will have them ready by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. For out of town weddings, we recommend picking up your cupcakes on Friday.
What might my display look like??
Be creative!! Borrow cake plates from your friends, cover up various size boxes with table linens, line 'em up in rows...however you can dream it, we've seen the pictures that show you make it happen! Our large wooden display can/should be covered with fabric, and you can tie that in to your them or keep it clean and white.
